7 Seconds of Fame

While the October 22, 1969, calls to the Jim Dunbar show turned out to be a hoax, the media coverage was quite real, with local and national news covering the event, including ABC News, which filmed at the Daly City location later in the day. During that broadcast, in a clip you can find on YouTube if you search for “Zodiac Killer, Real Voice, Police Say Calls Never Traced,” a man wanders into frame at 3:20 and for seven seconds walks right at the camera.

I am here to tell you now, it looks very much like Richard Gaikowski, the shape of his head, his hands in his windbreaker, his glasses. It is reasonably close to his height and build as I remember him. This is yet another funny coincidence. Because most likely, this is NOT Richard. It’s just so funny that it looks so much like him. And it really does look like him.

And even funnier, consider the alternative, rational explanation for this: You have to imagine an individual who is crossing the street, presumably unaware there is a news crew filming. This person then sees the ABC News crew, with cameras, lights, and likely a van with large letters saying ABC NEWS on the side. In 1969, the TV lights would be very bright, the cameras would be huge, there would be a larger crew than there is today, and the van might have been as large as an RV. Despite all this, they still have randomly wandered into frame, then discovering they have done so, THEY THEN decide to walk DIRECTLY towards the reporter and camera for many steps. That’s quite a clueless individual.

Or not.

It’s funny that all the descriptions one could use for this man, white, average height, 30-40 years old, with horned rimmed glasses could all be applied to Richard, as well as thousands of other people who could have been crossing the street that day, walking straight at the reporter. It is totally explainable that it looks exactly like him. It’s also very funny.

It is a coincidence he looks a lot like eyewitness descriptions of Zodiac?

Average height? Yeah sure.

Glasses? It looks like he has them, with dark plastic frames. Blondish/sandy hair? Maybe, but it’s definitely not black.

Locks of hair that might still be seen through the eyeholes of the hood? Yes.

Dark windbreaker? Yes, windbreaker or similar jacket.

Wing walker boots? The shoes look quite similar.

Intentionally walking towards the camera? It sure seems so.

Was the Zodiac a narcissist? Almost certainly, some form of narcissism.

Would a narcissist intentionally walk into a camera shoot about himself? If he was there, it would likely be irresistible.

How would he know to go there? If he worked in the news he could have gotten the location.

Do you think he had anything in his pockets?
